Mistaken Identity

The tragic aftermath of a fatal automobile accident in Phoenix became more complicated when authorities discovered that they had wrongly identified two victims of the crash. It was thought that 21-year-old Marlena Cantu was in critical condition after the crash and that her 19-year-old friend Abby Guerra had died at the scene. Only after several days did the family and friends of the two young ladies learn that Abby had actually survived and it was Marlena who had died.

Years ago, something similar happened. I’m not sure you could call it a case of mistaken identity, but God looked at the body of his bleeding, dying son Jesus—and thought it was me.

Isaiah 53:5—“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
