Mayan calendar

Many people have been concerned because the impressive calendar developed by the Mayan civilization appeared to end on December 21, 2012. This led to speculation that the Mayans had predicted that the world would radically change, or perhaps even end on that date.

A recent discovery, however, has found that the Mayan calendar extends well beyond 2012. Some inscriptions include dates corresponding to a time beyond the year 3500.

This new revelation calls for a change of plans. I had decided to put off my Christmas shopping until December 22. You know, just in case the Mayans were right. I mean, why shop for a holiday that may never occur?

Now I suppose we had all better plan for Christmas, New Year’s and beyond.

Seriously, Jesus teaches that no one knows when the end will be, so we all should live as if the world, as we know it, could end any day.

We should pray along with the Psalmist, “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”—Psalm 90:12.
