On Friday, May 31, 2013, Tim Samaras, his son Paul and their co-worker Carl Young were killed in a tornado in Oklahoma. They were storm chasers, trying to get as close to the tornado as they could in order to gather scientific information. They had devoted years to understanding how killer storms behave. These men hoped that their work might help protect some people from being harmed by future storms. Jim Samaras said this of his brother Tim—“At the end of the day, he wanted to save lives and he gave the ultimate sacrifice for that.”
Jesus died in order to save us from a future storm called Judgment Day. He gave the ultimate sacrifice to save us from sin and its awful penalty.
“Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!”—Romans 5:9.
