Tower of Babble

minionsA friend from my church recently gave me a gift—a little toy minion from the movie Despicable Me 2. There are different minions that you can collect. This one is especially appropriate for me because it is named after me, “Tom Babbler”.

Actually, I meant to say that the “Tom” part of the name is appropriate. I’m sure (I think?) that the “Babbler” part was a joke. As a preacher, I don’t want to babble; I want to say things that are significant. This should be the goal of any Christian.

“If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God…”—1 Peter 4:11.

I went searching for this once you mentioned it. I’m sorry it has taken so long to post, but, yes, “babbler” was intended as a joke. 😀 I find that I am often moved to correct some portion of my life in response to your sermons. It is easy to tell that they are well planned and heart-felt. I especially like the short stories and jokes you seamlessly work into your sermons. (Thanks to my husband I’ve already heard most of them.)

It did take a while to get over the “bad science” comment on ‘back to school Sunday, but I’m still coming. 🙂 (Note: not all science is bad. Teaching evolution, Big Bang theory, and other similar fare is mandated by our state. Just because I teach it doesn’t mean I believe it. Science attempts to explain what God already knows.

I giggle a little (quietly so no one can hear) when people get worked up about “supernatural” stories; ghosts, demons, Harry Potter! :-c In the Bible a donkey talks, a field of dry bones becomes a marching army, the blind see, people talk to the dead, wrestle angels, foresee the future, and one man [the living embodiment of the universe’s creator] lives his short “sinless” life only to die for sins he did not commit. Willingly! Though I only ask to touch the hem of his cloak, He says “come!” with open arms. WOW!!! That’s what I call “supernatural!”

Thanks for commenting. Just to set the record straight, I know that not all science is bad. I was referring to such “science” as man descending from apes. I know you have to present the information. I don’t fault you for that, and I know that you believe that God created us in his image. Keep up the good work, at school and in church.
