Contemporary Wedding

William Bennett

William Bennett

Former Education Secretary William Bennett once attended a contemporary wedding where the bride and groom did not promise to stay together “til death do we part”. Instead, in their wedding vows, the couple pledged to remain together “as long as love shall last.”

This caused Bennett to say, “I sent paper plates as my wedding gift.”

It’s sad to think that there are so many “contemporary” marriages today. Many couples don’t take the commitment of marriage as seriously as they should, and the result is sad. Very sad.

“Has not the Lord made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.”—Malachi 2:15.
