Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell disagreed with the NFL’s decision to postpone Sunday’s Eagles’ game against the Vikings because of the heavy snow. He thinks that Americans are becoming too soft, and that we are not competing well with nations such as China. Gov. Rendell said, “If this was in China do you think the Chinese would have called off the game? People would have been marching down to the stadium. They would have walked and they would have been doing calculus on the way down.”
The governor perhaps made a bit of an overstatement in his humorous assessment of the situation. However, many people agree that Americans as a whole don’t have the initiative that we once had.
Perhaps you could make a case that the church has gone a bit soft too. Would the forces of evil be making such inroads in our society if the church had been more diligent? Maybe we Christians need to compete harder in this battle between good and evil.
Heb.6:12 says, “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”
Tom Cox!!! Congratulations on your new position as Minister of First Christian Church in Vanceburg. AWESOME!! It has been five years since I have been back, and hope to make a visit sometime this year. I would love to come back to Vanceburg to live out my remaining years close to family and old friends if God sees fit to give me employment there so that I can move. Keep me in your prayers and you and your family will be in mine. Are you on facebook?? Would love to see pictures of your family.
In His Service,
