Last week I went to see my nephew play in a high school All-Star football game. I followed a young married couple and their son—who was maybe 3 years old—from the parking lot to the stadium.
As this family approached the ticket counter, the young boy enthusiastically said, “Hi!” The lady selling tickets remarked, “I should let you in free for saying “Hi!” like that!
After they had their tickets, I stepped up and, in my best impression of an excited 3-year-old, exclaimed, “Hi!” The lady laughed as she told me that wasn’t going to work. I was going to have to pay to get in to the game.
When it comes to getting into heaven, a lot of people think they can pay their way in with their good deeds, good intentions, etc. But we can’t pay our way in. The price is much too costly. The only one who can pay our way into heaven is Jesus. And he did that when he died on the cross to pay for our sins.
“He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”—1 John 2:2.
