Someone recently compiled a list of the 20 most generous Americans. Some well-known billionaires made the list, which also included the amount of money they gave to charity and what percentage of their wealth that their gift represented.

While these people are to be commended for giving so much money away, many of them probably aren’t as generous as some of the people you worship with every Sunday.

Allow me to explain.

Jesus was watching some people put their offerings into the temple treasury. “…Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”—Mark 12:41-44.

Now that’s generosity!
