Earlier this week, a group of people in Nevada were involved in a different kind of fishing. They were on a rescue mission to save thousands of trout and other fish that had been stranded in irrigation ditches. A recent drought in the Reno area has caused waters to recede, cutting the fish off from the Truckee River. So about a dozen volunteers joined Nevada wildlife officials in the rescue mission. Wearing waders, they splashed around in knee-deep water in ditches that will soon be going dry. They netted an estimated 6,000 fish in 2 days.
While saving the fish is a commendable undertaking, let us not forget that Jesus has called us to be fishing for people.
Let’s wade in and get busy!
“…Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.”—Luke 5:10.
