I just pulled a tree out of the ground with my bare hands. Actually, I just used my thumb and forefinger, since the tree was only a couple of inches tall and maybe two weeks old. It was growing in the sidewalk behind my house. While it wasn’t causing me any immediate problem, I certainly didn’t want it to grow to be full-sized. So I uprooted it.
This is how we must deal with the sin in our lives. As soon as we notice that lust, greed, dishonesty, or any other sin, has tried to put down roots in our souls, we must get rid of it immediately. Don’t put it off! Sin can quickly grow to do untold damage in your life and in the lives of those around you. Be ruthless in your efforts to eradicate sin from your life.
“If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away…”—Matthew 18:8.
