When Douglas Legler passed away at the age of 85, the obituary that appeared in the newspaper was quite brief. It simply read: “Doug died”. The North Dakota prankster evidently wanted to give his friends one last laugh, so he penned the two-word notice himself. Apparently, he thought it would suffice.
Two words is not nearly enough to convey the message of the death of Jesus. Much Scripture is devoted to his atoning sacrifice. Many books and songs have been written about the significance of Jesus’ death and the importance of his subsequent resurrection. People will continue to speak of the gospel message—that salvation is available through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ!
“And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.’ ”—Revelation 5:9-10.
