The Meaning of the Cross

Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan

Former wrestler Hulk Hogan is suing Gawker Media for $100 million, claiming that his privacy was invaded and that he has suffered emotional distress since Gawker posted a video of Hogan having sex. The woman in the video happened to be the wife of his best friend at the time.

Hogan was photographed leaving the courtroom Wednesday wearing a large cross around his neck. I am not sure what the cross means to Hogan, if it means anything at all. Perhaps it is nothing more than a nice piece of jewelry.

I am concerned that many people have no clue about the true meaning of the cross. Jesus died on the cross to pay for the sins of mankind. That sacrificial death should have a significant impact on our lives. It means that we must never take sin lightly. It means that we can’t live selfishly, taking things that do not rightfully belong to us. It means that we should live humbly, mourning the sin in our lives.

At least, that’s what the cross means to me. What does it mean to you?

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”—1 Corinthians 1:18.
