“Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”—Matthew 9:37-38
What Jesus noticed in the first century is still true today—there are precious few people working for the Lord. The solution? Prayer!
Rather than beg for volunteers, churches would be better off to get serious about praying for God to put people to work. It’s easy for people to say “No” to us when we ask them for their help. It’s much more difficult for them to say “No” to God!
Oh, and let’s remember that God might answer your prayer by opening up an opportunity for you to serve in some way that you never have before.
An old farmer once said, “If you pray for a good corn crop, you had better have a hoe in your hand when you say ‘Amen’”!
