Worshiping through Music

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”—Colossians 3:16

There are at least three important truths we can gather from the above verse of Scripture about music and singing. First is that music is one of the highest forms of praise. While music is not the only way we can direct our worship to God, it is certainly an important one. We see many places in the Bible where God’s people worshiped him through music and singing.

Second, we see that God honors diversity in music. We tend to have a favorite genre of music, but the fact that there are different types of music listed here seems to tell us that God likes variety.

Finally, it is important to note that the attitude of the heart matters more than the style or form of the music.

Let us continue to strive to worship God in a manner that truly pleases him.
